Bollywood stars in Paris (Part II)
At the Grand Rex for the launch of Veer Zaara in France
30 avril 2006
18:00 - 21:30 GRAND REX : PREMIERE OF VEER ZAARA
People were waiting around the Grand Rex to get in "en file indienne".
We were received with lighted diyas, beautiful interiors and arti thalis with the traditional red tikkas on our foreheads at the Grand Rex. It felt like being home in India for a while. The flowers smelt heavenly as the smiles and excitement foretold of the event beginning to take shape. In the VIP lounge, champagne flowed with samosas (anyone know if they go together ???) and cocktails.
The stage was set with anticipation and while the halls were filled with fans outside the red carpet was set amongst throngs of faces and cameras. Vincet Paul Boncour who is the director of Carlotta films responsible for organizing the event was observed overseeing the arrangements and waiting for the arrivals. And in true « première  » tradition, when the bus arrived, they walked out one by one, giving fans time to click photos, wave and shout and scream !!!
Shri Yash Chopra, with his lady, followed by Rani Mukherjee in a beautiful black and gold sari, (I heard an Indian lady behind me in the VIP lounge, saying, « gosh I hope that at least one of the ladies wears traditional dress !  ». Then came Priety Zinta followed by a smiling and last came the King Khan !
Jumping at times to make sure that the ones at the back had a glimpse of him, talking to reporters and taking time to give people a view worth many memories he came into the hall and there the walls were on fire !
Before they were called on stage, we had the pleasure like for all premiere at the Grand Rex to see "La Féerie des eaux" during 10 minutes, a kind of musical fountain with the songs from Veer Zaara. Marvellous and refreshing !
Each one then talked to their waving fans :
Sanjeev Kohli
« My Dad died when I was very young and I discovered some of his music recorded on cassettes that I had always wanted to share with his fans and God gave this wonderful opportunity 30 years later with “VEER ZAARA” !!
I have no ambitions of making a career out of it. It is just my humble tribute to my father. And it is a great pleasure and joy for me to see people especially the youth listen to this music with such appreciation. »
Rani Mukherjee
Bonsoir,...merci, (uproar at that one !)
« I’m so very happy to be here and it really brings tears to my eyes to see the love for Indian cinema and us Indian artists here.
(Upon her character in Veer Zaara) I represent a young Pakistani and an Indian and the love of the people for each other. I represent you, and you and you. »(pointing to the fans near the stage)
Preity Zinta
Bonsoir Paris ! (I did not believe my ears would survive the reception of that one !)
« It is an absolute honor and pleasure to be here. Je t’adore Paris !
It was wonderful to make this movie with a message of peace and love between India and Pakistan. »
Yash Chopra
« It is a story of love that we are presenting to you this evening and I do hope you all shall like it »
Shah Rukh Khan
(The last and certainly not the least to speak quite the contrary)
« Bonsoir, Salam Aleikum
This is an absolute honor to be here in this city of love. In my life I have never been received with so much love and respect in one evening. I don’t know much French so when I was going to come here, the interpreter told me to just say : “Voulez vous coucher avec moi ?” »
(Can you imagine the uproar at those words, because they became the understatement of the evening and the magic that exudes from the KING KHAN !)
Shah Rukh Khan is shooting in Malaysia for DON (remake) and had come to Paris for just a day. Pity, but next time we shall try keep him here longer !
This shouting screaming and earsplitting session was ended by the Hon. Ambassador to France from India Shri Rangachari giving out welcome gifts of shining crystal Eiffel tower replicas to the actors along with Vincent Paul Boncour.
